One of The World's Deadliest Plagues:

Earlier this month I’d been sick for about 2 weeks. It sucked, like a lot. The mucus in my lungs was clinging to my airways harder than you are a bad habit. And between you, me, and whoever else reads this, I saw it coming. In fact, the day before I was out with friends rocking a (cute!) thin jean jacket in a wind chill of slightly above unbearable. Not one of my best ideas. I know. I gotta do better. BUT a lesson was learned out of this.

I hate the doctor's office and I hate having to take medicine. Don’t worry! I get my vaccinations, spare me the slander. But when it comes to what I assume to be common colds I refuse any form of medication. After an extreme coughing fit and a lecture from my momma, I decided to give in and go to the doctor.

Going to the doctor's office made me realize a few things. I didn’t want to be made uncomfortable. I knew seeing a physician and being prescribed medication was something I needed but it was something I didn’t want. Regardless of my ongoing cold, I was afraid to face whatever came with attending the hospital, but looking back, it was purely for my benefit.

Moral of the story, in order for me to have felt better, to overcome my current struggle, I had to leave my comfort zone. And it was worth it. I feel so much better. I feel Claritin clear. Kelly Clarkson said it best, “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” My immune system is back up and running fully functional. I feel like Allmight before the tragic accident.

In all seriousness, as people, we have a tendency to want something but not the obstacles that come with it. Having goals, desires, and visions is fun but faith without works is dead (James 2:14). For example, I can hope for healing from my sickness all day long but what good does it do me if I don’t take the steps to get better? Like going to the doctor. An important lesson I continue to learn as I get older is: do what you HAVE to do in order to do what you WANT to do. When it comes to progression whether it be situational, physical, or emotional it has never been easy to achieve. And it shouldn’t be. Or else it wouldn’t be considered progression. Sometimes temporary discomfort and sacrifice need to be made in order to get to where you want to be. If dreams were easy to obtain they wouldn’t be considered dreams. The hardship is what ups the value of what you want to accomplish.

Don’t sit in your sickness, go to the doctor, take your medicine, do what you have to do to prevent this plague called “your comfort zone.”
